Groundworks and Site Preparation – The project involved cut and fill works from the groundworkers, which created challenges around the existing ground levels and the preparation required before the pitch installation could progress.

Waste and Poor Ground Conditions – There was a significant amount of waste and unsuitable material within the ground. This needed to be managed carefully to ensure the pitches could be constructed on a reliable and suitable base.

Preparing for Re-Grading – Before the final pitch construction could be completed, the site needed to be stripped, corrected and made ready for re-grading. This required coordination between the groundworkers and the Land Unit team to make sure the surface was properly prepared.

Land Unit addressed the challenges through careful site preparation, ground correction and pitch construction works:

Sub-Base Correction – The team removed areas of unsuitable sub-base and worked with the groundworkers to replace them with appropriate sub-soil. This helped create a more consistent foundation for the pitches.

Rolling and Re-Grading Preparation – Once the ground had been corrected, the surface was rolled and prepared ready for re-grading. This stage was essential in creating the right levels and profile for the final pitch installation.

Drainage and Sand Banding – Drainage was installed across the site, including storm water drainage infrastructure. Sand banding was also carried out to support the pitch drainage and improve the performance of the playing surface.

Pitch Installation and Establishment – The football pitches were completed through seeding and establishment works, supported by ongoing maintenance to help the surfaces develop after installation.

Following the seeding and completion of the groundworks, the site underwent a significant transformation. The pitches began to establish well, with the seeded areas turning green and creating a strong visual improvement from the original ground conditions.

The project delivered two football pitches for the client, supported by drainage, sand banding and ongoing maintenance to help protect the long-term performance of the playing surfaces.

By correcting the sub-base, preparing the site for re-grading, installing drainage and supporting the pitches through ongoing maintenance, the team delivered a strong result for Ashe Construction and helped create a long-term sports facility for the site.
